Cookie Dough Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter melted until browned
  • 1 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg room temperature
  • 1 large egg yolk room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • Flaky sea salt for sprinkling
  • 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips or roughly chopped chocolate

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat until it turns brown and has a nutty aroma. Let it cool slightly.
  • In a large bowl, mix the brown sugar and granulated sugar with the browned butter.
  • Add the egg, egg yolk, and the vanilla extract. Mix until combined.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and kosher salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
  • Fold in the chocolate chips or chopped chocolate.
  • Scoop tablespoon-sized balls of dough onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Sprinkle with flaky sea salt.

Baking

  • Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are golden but the center is still soft.
  • Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for about a week or freeze for up to three months. Do not overmix the dough to keep cookies soft and chewy. Chill the dough for 30 minutes for thicker cookies.
