Ingredients

For the Hamburger Steaks

  • 2 pounds lean ground beef Use lean ground beef to avoid excess grease.
  • 1 piece egg
  • 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon seasoned salt
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder

For the Onion Gravy

  • 1 piece onion (sliced)
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour Add more flour for a thicker gravy.
  • 2 cups beef broth

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, mix the ground beef, egg, Worcestershire sauce, breadcrumbs, milk, seasoned salt, onion powder, and garlic powder. Combine until well mixed.
  • Shape the mixture into oval patties.

Cooking

  • Heat a large skillet over medium heat and cook the patties until browned on both sides, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the patties and set them aside.
  • In the same skillet, melt the butter. Add the sliced onion and cook until they are soft and caramelized, about 5 minutes.
  • Stir in the flour and cook for another minute. Gradually whisk in the beef broth until the mixture is smooth.
  • Return the hamburger steaks to the skillet, cover, and simmer for about 10 minutes, letting the flavors blend.

Notes

Serve hot alongside mashed potatoes or rice to soak up the delicious gravy. You can also pair it with steamed vegetables or a fresh salad. A slice of crusty bread is a nice touch! To store leftovers, let them cool down to room temperature and refrigerate for up to three days.
