  • 1 pound smoked sausage, sliced Any type of sausage can be used.
  • 12 ounces penne or rotini pasta Can substitute with other pasta types.
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream Can substitute with half-and-half or milk.
  • ¾ cup honey BBQ sauce
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded Add more cheese if desired.
  • ½ cup diced onions
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • to taste Salt and pepper

Preparation

  • Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
  • Sauté diced onions until they become translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  • Add sliced smoked sausage to the pot and cook until browned, about 5-6 minutes.
  • Season the mixture with garlic powder, salt, and pepper.

Cooking

  • Pour in the chicken broth and bring it to a boil.
  • Add the pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente, which usually takes about 8-10 minutes.
  • Once the pasta is cooked, reduce the heat to low.
  • Stir in the heavy cream and honey BBQ sauce until well combined.
  • Gradually add the cheddar cheese, stirring until it melts and the sauce becomes creamy.
  • Taste and adjust seasonings if needed.

Notes

Serve hot with a simple side salad or crusty bread. Garnish with chopped parsley before serving. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.
