  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup shredded cheese Try cheddar, Monterey Jack, or Swiss for different flavors.
  • 1 cup diced ham or sausage You can combine ham and sausage if desired.
  • 1 cup chopped vegetables (like bell peppers and onions) Other vegetables like spinach or mushrooms can also be used.
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tsp mustard (optional) Can be omitted if not desired.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish evenly to facilitate serving.
  • Tear the bread into pieces and spread them evenly in the dish.
  • In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, pepper, and mustard (if using) until well combined.
  • Pour the egg mixture over the bread slowly and evenly to allow absorption.
  • Sprinkle cheese, ham or sausage, and vegetables on top, distributing for even flavor.
  • Cover and refrigerate overnight.

Cooking

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Bake uncovered for 45-55 minutes until the center is set and the top is lightly browned.
