For the Cookies

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Make sure your butter is softened to room temperature.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar Can be replaced with a sugar substitute.
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed Using more brown sugar will yield softer cookies.
  • 2 large eggs Add eggs one at a time.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour Don’t overmix the dough after adding this.
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda Ensure it's fresh for proper leavening.
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips Experiment with different types for variation.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth.
  • Add in the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then, stir in the vanilla extract.
  • In another bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet mixture.
  • Fold in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed.
  • Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto ungreased baking sheets, leaving some space between each cookie.

Baking

  • Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.
  • Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

These cookies are best served warm with a glass of milk, coffee, or tea. You can decorate them with a sprinkle of sea salt for an extra flavor boost. Store in an airtight container for up to a week, or freeze for up to three months.
